Cuba is considered a paradise of biodiversity in the Caribbean and birds are part of this wealth. Among the endemic species of the country, the Bee Hummingbird (zunzuncito) Mellisuga helenae stands out for being the smallest bird in the world with only 6.4 cm in length. For its beauty, it is also unforgettable the Cuban Trogon (tocororo) Priotelus temnurus declared the national bird. This 17-day tour will take us throughout the country through the main sites to see the most amazing birds of the Greater Antilles.


Arrival to Havana and accommodation for 1 night. Meeting to explain the Birding Program.

DAYS 2-3

Departure for the town of San Diego de los Baños, in Pinar del Río, Cuba’s westernmost province. Two nights accommodation at one of the Mac hotels. During the stay you will visit La Güira Birding Area.

DAYS 4-5

Departure for Ciénaga de Zapata (Zapata Swamp), Matanzas. Three nights accommodation at one of the Mac hotels, located in the natural environment of Bahía de Cochinos (Bay of Pigs). Although the accommodation options are two-star hotels, they have one of the best dive sites in the country. For bird lovers, the main activity will be the visit to the birding areas: Las Salinas, Bermejas.

DAYS 7-8

The thematic tour continues to the Protected National Park Topes de Collantes, in Sancti Spíritus, a Cuban province founded in June 1514 by the Spanish conquistador Diego Velázquez. The visitor will spend a two night stay at the local accommodation of his/her choice closest to the Birding Area of the natural reserve.

DAYS 9-10

The adventure goes on in Cayo Coco, Ciego de Ávila. You can enjoy two nights accommodation in Cayo Coco and visit the Birding Area of that islet.

DAYS 11-12

Returning to the he largest archipelago in the Caribbean, the tour continues to Najasa, Camagüey. Indeed, in this area Sierra de Najasa is where the province’s Birding Area is located. On the other hand, visitors will spend a two night stay at a local accommodation of their choice.

DAYS 13-14

The end of the Tour takes place in the eastern provinces. In this case, Bayamo, Granma. Visitors will stay for one night at the local hotel and will be able to visit El Mango Birding Area and the Cauto River, Cuba’s longest river and second largest.

DAYS 15-16

Departure for Santiago de Cuba to stay at Villa Gran Piedra, for one night. This town has a Birding Area among other attractions. The Great Stone is a huge block of volcanic rock and measures 51 meters long, 25 high and 30 wide. It is estimated to weight over 63,000 tons. It is possible to climb the 459 stone steps to the top of the rock and stand at 1,234 meters above sea level to enjoy a panoramic view. It is said that on a dark night it is possible to see the lights of Jamaica. And on clear days and good visibility you can see both coasts of the eastern region.
