A film unites Cuba with the Vatican once again

During the 40th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema (December 6-16, 2018), this film revived the religious ties between Cuba and the Holy See.

Monsignor Dario Edoardo Viganò traveled to Cuba with the film “Pope Francis, a man of the word” to prolong the dialogue between the Pope and the people of the island.

“By taking the Wim Wenders film to Havana, I think it is a way to offer the opportunity to prolong the dialogue between Pope Francis and the people of Cuba, gathered during the wonderful trip of 2015. Let’s not forget that Cuba was also the land in which the historic meeting between Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill took place in 2016”, Viganò said.

On Sunday, December 9, at 8 pm, the public screening of the film about Pope Francis was held in the presence of the apostolic nuncio Msgr. Giorgio Lingua, from many ecclesial realities such as the Community of Sant’Egidio, as well as the president of the Cuban Festival, Iván Giroud.

Preceded by a video message from the movie director, Wim Wenders, the screening was presented by Msgr. Viganò, who emphasized: “It is a film that continues a meeting, a narration of a pontificate made of gestures, silences, trips and words.

“It´s  a film that becomes an opportunity to renew the ranks of a speech never interrupted or to initiate a dialogue that can be fruitful, a guardian of hope”, he added.

At the end of the screening, the apostolic nuncio declared: “A very impressive documentary, capable of offering deep food for thought, meaningful images that speak for themselves, it seems that everything is a meditation that we have witnessed.”
